Inside Mount Measuring Instructions
Depth:
Start by measuring the window depth. Position the end of the measuring tape to touch the deepest part of the frame, keeping it perpendicular. If possible, take measurements directly under the head of the window frame. Otherwise on either jamb is acceptable.
Record the smallest depth measurement as the depth of the frame.
**Note that for inside mount valances, a minimum depth of 1 3/5 inches is required. For a full flush installation, ensure a minimum of 2 4/5 inches from the deepest install point of the bracket. Take into account sash window frames when calculating depth.
Width:
Stand facing the window and measure the inside width of the window frame horizontally. Place the starting and finishing points of the top horizontal measurement roughly 1 to 3 inches from the top of the frame.
Take a second horizontal measurement, ensuring the starting and finishing points are approximately at the midpoint of the frame's vertical axis.
Lastly, measure the horizontal bottom of the frame.
Record the smallest width measurement of the three as the width of the frame.
*Be sure to consider any uneven surfaces or additional tiling, paneling, or moldings that may affect the measurement.
Length:
Stand facing the window and mark three equally spaced points on the horizontal span of the top molding. These points will serve as your vertical drop points. Vertically measure the inside length of the window frame along these points, starting directly under the face of the window head.
Record the largest length measurement as the length of the frame.
Outside Trim + Wall Mount Measuring Instructions
Width:
Stand facing the window and measure the width of the area you want to cover horizontally. Make sure to include the moldings on both sides. To block out maximum light, consider adding 1 1/2 inches on each side, or a total of 3 inches. Please indicate if you've added extra allowance for coverage in your measurement notes.
Length:
Stand facing the window and measure the length of the area you want to cover vertically. Start your measurement from where the bottom of the valance will sit.
